Anyone who has ever seen the movie "The Social Network" will likely have an opinion on the Winklevoss twins. The film doesn't portray them in a great light.
If you haven't seen it I would definitely recommend watching it.
I just recently finished a book which covered the twins' investment into Bitcoin - how they came across it and the lengths they went to to promote it.
Whatever I thought about them before reading the book I came away with a certain amount of respect for them afterwards. The chapter that deals with their securing of their private key was very interesting. These lads formed a plan for locking down the wallet in which they held their Bitcoin investments and then carried it out with secrecy and precision.
It was such an ingenius idea that I will totally steal it should I ever decide to get involved in crypto investing.
What I didn't understand is why they were backing up just one private key. Does that mean they only have one holding wallet?
Should that be the case, if you can ever deduce what their private key is then you will unlock a Bitcoin fortune worth an estimated $1,800,000,000.
The book was "Bitcoin Billionaires" by Ben Mezrich and if you like that I can also recommend his 2003 book "Bringing Down the House".
The portfolio continues to inch up in value. There have been no new investments since the beginning of May as I am yet to find anything suitable. LM057 is very close to qualifying for an additional unit but in terms of new shares or commodities there is nothing at present.
My experiment with Betfair - the so-called "System 2" trial - came to end a while ago after around 4,000 bets. It had bust two small banks so I gave it up as a bad job.
However, for the last few weeks I have been running a new system - "System 3" - which is showing great promise. Since mid-April it is up over 300%.
Sadly the football season is coming to an end so just as it begins to show a healthy profit I will need to pause it. I'll be jumping straight back on it come August once the real matches are being played again.
No sense it trying to force it on friendly matches - like a wise man once said, "when there's nothing to do, do nothing".
I did read a very interesting book about Betfair trading and this promoted an automated Betfair system which was apparently having some excellent results.
On further inspection I discovered that it boils down to a very simple (and flawed) method - back over 0.5 goals on every game and then use a Martingale strategy to recover funds when you encounter a loss.
A hideous idea which will eventually decimate the bank.
I sit here shaking my head at the thought whilst also dreaming about what to spend my forthcoming System 3 riches on.
