The World Cup bets ended up working out pretty well.
Of the 4 specific bets I mentioned, Germany did the job for me and failed to get out of the group. Much of the thanks must surely go to Japan who had a superb group stage but sadly failed to get past Croatia in the Round of 16.
It was an enjoyable spectacle overall, not least because I managed to watch most of the games due to working from home and FIFA cramming 4 games a day in.
There were some disappointing aspects - Qatar's dismal showing proving that they wasted a place that could've gone to a more deserving team.
Also, there was one particular moment involving Neymar where he took his time coming back to the pitch from the half-time break, then proceeded to crouch down to tie his laces on the pitch even though the whistle had gone for the second half.
Completely unprofessional.
The opposition were good enough to kick the ball between themselves whilst the prima donna took his time and held everyone up. Justice was served when Brazil were dumped out on penalties to Croatia and Neymar cried himself off the pitch. In fact in that match my partner pointed out that the only time he didn't dive onto the ground when an opposition player came near him was when he was in a good position to score Brazil's extra time goal.
Share trading is non-existent at the moment as for me and the systems I use there is nothing to trade. Luckily I can concentrate on my two betting systems so I'm not tempted to "play" with my LISA money.
We were so close to seeing the signal to start buying shares again but then it showed itself as a false dawn. As 2022 comes to a close it has been largely disappointing.
If you Google "FTSE 250" and then click on "YTD" on the chart that appears, it shows you how far down we've fallen this year. Around 21% at present, which is huge and probably quite disastrous for many portfolios.
The LISA Millionaire fund has done almost nothing and a back of the envelope calculation shows a loss of around 10%. I'll do a good (and accurate) round-up before the New Year but I'm not looking forward to it. We need some returns in 2023!
As it's Christmas I'll be doing many of the same things I do every year:
* Watching Trading Places - the best Christmas film there is
* Watching Blackadder's Christmas Carol - the best Christmas TV episode there is
* Spending a lot of time with family and friends
* Drinking some very nice ales
* Reading the two books I always read at this time of year
You can read more about those books here:
How I Made $2 Million in the Stock Market by Nicolas Darvas
How to Make Your Million From the Internet (And What To Do If You Don't) by Jonathan Maitland
Here's wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a highly prosperous New Year!
