As I write this it's around 10am and I have already closed off two trades this morning. Both were UK shares and both had slipped below their 200 day simple moving averages last week and stayed there for 3 days.
The first was LM039 and it was a one-unit purchase of APH. This was opened almost a year ago and the value of one "unit" at that time was 1000 GBP. Previously I have spoken about unit size and how this will increase as the bank size increases. At the moment all new trades are opened with a unit size of £1250.
Closing this position means that's the last remaining trade that only had one unit assigned with the lower unit value.
The company name was Alliance Pharma plc and in the whole time it was in the LM portfolio it ranged in value between 90p and 115p. In other words, it didn't do very much and on closing it resulted in a small profit.
Certainly not a complete waste of time but looking at it positively it didn't tie up too much capital and didn't result in a loss. There may even have been a tiny dividend from it.
Perhaps it will turn up in a 52 week high list in the future and then it can be purchased again - providing, of course, that I don't hold any other shares in the same sector already.
The second trade closed was a single unit of "Volution Group PLC" (LM042, FAN) and looking at the share price over the last year I was probably a bit late to the party.
FAN shows a gain of 53% over the last year but I lost a couple of quid on it.
Russia invades Ukraine
If you are reading this in several years' time then you may have forgotten that there was a conflict in Ukraine in 2022. Hopefully you have because that would mean it was over quickly and wasn't as serious as we all thought it might be. Plus this means it didn't escalate.
Of course, at present it is extremely serious for the citizens of Ukraine who are being invaded and worrying for everyone else.
The rest of the world appears to be on Ukraine's side and sanctions are being forced upon Russia. There are all kinds of reports on how each side is doing but determining what is accurate and what is misleading isn't always easy.
There are rumours of a run on the banks in Russia at present. Videos of people queuing are being posted to Reddit and viewers are told that the people are lining up for their turn to use an ATM.
But the queues could be for anything and the footage could be from months or years ago.
Anyone with a smart phone now has a video camera with them 24/7 so there's plenty of material out there to use to relay any message you want to.
Some news suggests there may be talks planned for this week. Hopefully it's all over shortly. The markets aren't dropping severely... not sure if that's a good or bad sign?
