Just last week I found myself approaching a roundabout on the way to the local supermarket. Being the safe driver that I am I checked to the right and found no-one entering from that side so I judged it safe to continue.
As I entered the roundabout I saw there was someone entering at the same time from the left. Perhaps he was going a little too fast, or maybe he didn't see me coming.
Obviously I had right of way so I knew what to do. I immediately pressed my hand down onto the horn, sped up and then slammed on the brakes at the very last minute, only just managing to avoid a collision.
The other driver stopped dead so I continued to hold the horn down whilst shouting abuse through my closed window.
Yes, I thought, I win!
I taught him a lesson about his inadequate driving by masterfully almost having a collision but then avoiding it.
Before you email in to quite rightly call me a complete idiot (or worse), let me clarify that this didn't actually happen. But if you ever watch any dashcam compilation videos on Youtube then it seems like this is how 99% of people handle the unforgivable crime of pulling out on someone on a roundabout.
Rather than slow down a little and let the other person continue, everyone on these videos seems to need to show them the error of their ways by having a near-miss accident. It's like they'd rather have their car bumped then have to be delayed by 2 seconds.
It's baffling behaviour and must cause so many unnecessary insurance claims, pumping up car insurance costs for those of us who have a little patience.
Anyway, that was my week. The FTSE 250 is still down below the 200 day simple moving average so I haven't opened any new UK share positions. I was going to close one of my positions this morning (LM028) as it has been under its 200 day SMA for three days but when I checked this morning it was up nearly 6% and back over that particular indicator.
I'll keep an eye on it this week and close if it continues to show weakness.
Following last week's update I decided to open a spreadbetting account. For now I am using the practise money to open a few trades based on the same rules I use for the LISA. Spreadbetting gives me more options as I can easily go long and short so with there being a lot more shares making new 52 week lows than 52 week highs there are more opportunities to go short.
For example, I can profit from THG's seemingly never-ending decline in price. Down to new all-time lows today and looking like it may end up priced at less than £1.
