There isn't a day goes by where I don't witness something that disappoints me. Maybe it's because I'm getting old and cranky or maybe it's because the vast majority of the general public are complete idiots.
Could be something silly like someone littering or some man-boy booting his car down the road when the speed limit is clearly signposted as 20.
Occasionally it involves a person who I previously held in high regard.
A case in point; after months of listening to a finance-related podcast it was disappointing to discover that the "personality" behind the podcast recently fired a lady from his company because she got pregnant.
And that's no exaggeration. He openly admits that's why he fired her.
Sadly this was in the US and he was well within his rights to do so according to the laws of that particular state.
The lady made a mistake in this employer's eyes because she got pregnant without being married and now she's out of work.
I always thought it was twee to hear little mentions of "God" and "Jesus" here and there on this particular show.
I'm not one for that stuff, I remember being in primary school and thinking how ridiculous and far-fetched it all was.
However, each to his own and if you love any particular god then good for you.
Forcing your beliefs on others isn't something I agree with though. A religious person may think that everyone who has children should be married but many don't think this is necessary. No-one has the right to dictate either way.
So I've unsubscribed from that podcast and deleted the hundreds of shows I had downloaded.
If this was a private email I'd probably say a lot more but I'll just leave it there.
What a k***head though.
OK, I'll leave it there.
The LM portfolio
The FTSE 100 was below 7000 again briefly but ended the week just over this level. The LM portfolio has been dropping a little over the last few weeks yet there doesn't appear to be any urgency to do anything.
One position was closed this morning and I will report on that in the next update. It's another frustrating exit, and not because a loss was made. In fact a decent profit was banked. On the other hand the position had steadily lost ground for a few weeks before the sell signal was received.
Whenever this happens it's easy to feel that somehow I have "missed out" and "should've got out earlier". At this point it pays to remind yourself that no-one gets in at the bottom or out at the top consistently.
With some cash freed up there is an opportunity to add some new investments to the fund and that has also happened this morning. One unit of an ETC was purchased, as well as one unit of a UK share that had made a new 52 week high on Friday.
